BEX Launches Comprehensive Report on Bulgaria’s Growing Cybersecurity Ecosystem

The Bulgarian Expansion Bridge (BEX) has unveiled its latest report, shedding light on the rapid development and growing potential of Bulgaria's cybersecurity ecosystem. As part of its mission to empower Bulgarian digital businesses on the global stage, BEX has launched this report to highlight key industry trends, investment opportunities, and the collaborative efforts propelling the country’s cybersecurity sector forward.

Cybersecurity: Bulgaria’s Next Tech Frontier

Bulgaria has been recognised as a tech hub in Eastern Europe, and its cybersecurity sector is gaining momentum as the country continues to strengthen its technology sector. The report highlights Bulgaria's competitive advantages, including its skilled workforce, a favourable business environment, and growing regulatory demands from the EU, such as the NIS2 Directive and DORA, which are accelerating the need for advanced cybersecurity solutions.

"With its robust talent pool and a dynamic startup community, Bulgaria is perfectly positioned to become a global leader in cybersecurity. Our goal is to shine a spotlight on this burgeoning industry and create opportunities for international collaboration and growth," said Georgios Kolovos, Managing Director of BEX.

Spotlighting a Growing Sector

The report details how Bulgaria’s cybersecurity ecosystem, while still young, is making significant strides. Initially, many firms expanded their IT services to include information security solutions. Now, a growing number of companies focus exclusively on infosec services such as penetration testing, DevSecOps, and CISO-as-a-Service. Despite these advancements, the sector faces a pressing need for more cybersecurity professionals, a challenge the report addresses with a focus on community-driven initiatives and educational reforms.

"The demand for qualified cybersecurity experts continues to grow, but so do the initiatives aimed at fostering this talent," said Miglen Evlogiev, President of the Bulgarian Cybersecurity Association. "Bulgaria's established ICT sector, combined with its competitive costs, presents an exciting investment opportunity for global companies."

Fostering Talent and Community Collaboration

The report also emphasises the importance of community involvement in nurturing cybersecurity talent. Initiatives like Cyber Security Talks Bulgaria and organisations such as CyberCLUB and XAKEP.BG play a crucial role in connecting professionals, students, and enthusiasts with industry experts. These communities are driving grassroots efforts to raise awareness about cybersecurity, promote education, and support Bulgaria’s next generation of cybersecurity leaders.

Pavel Georgiev, Founder of Cyber Security Talks Bulgaria, commented: "Communities are at the heart of Bulgaria’s cybersecurity evolution. They provide a platform for knowledge sharing and mentorship, helping to create a safer digital future for the country."

Looking Ahead: A Global Leader in Cybersecurity

The BEX report calls for stronger collaboration between Bulgaria and international markets, particularly the UK, to further accelerate growth in the cybersecurity sector. By leveraging Bulgaria’s talent and cost advantages, and fostering partnerships across borders.
